With a history and track record of more than 20 years in China, Investor has now taken the latest step in its China strategy by launching a condensed version of its corporate website in the Chinese language.
This Chinese version of Investor’s website has been produced for two main reasons:
1) To provide more information about Investor’s activities in China for local Chinese entrepreneurs, investments bankers and company owners to support the local deal flow, and
2) To provide more information about Investor’s activities to representatives of the Chinese media.
The website is accessed through www.investorab.com by clicking on “Chinese” in the top hand menu, or by going to www.investorab.com.cn.
Strong position in China
Investor’s first office in the Asian region was established in Hong Kong already in 1986. Since then, Investor’s regional business has expanded and more and more direct investments are being made in China today.
Throughout the Asian crisis, Investor decided to remain in the region and further emphasize its long-term belief in the Chinese market. Investor Asia was formed in the autumn of 1994. The strategy was to start out with a “wide” approach with equity trading, building a portfolio of listed companies for the longer term and also doing private equity. The purpose of this approach was to identify how Investor should be best organized in the future in order to leverage its ability to analyze and capture Asian business opportunities. In 1997, after three years of operation, Investor decided to focus exclusively on private equity.
Ten investments to date
Investor Growth Capital, wholly owned by Investor, currently has around 10 investments in growth companies in China. In addition, the partly owned buyout fund EQT Asia has two funds in China in which Investor is the biggest investor.
Apart from Investor’s proprietary investment activities, the Chinese market is also very important for many holdings in Investor’s portfolio, such as Atlas Copco, Ericsson and ABB.
Today, Investor has an office in Hong Kong and a representative office in Beijing.
Several steps to increase visibility in China
The launch of the Chinese web site is just one of many activities to increase Investor’s visibility in China. In 2006, Investor arranged a series of activities focused around the visit of the Swedish ship “The East Indiaman” in China, and also hosted a media academy to acquaint Chinese journalists better with Investor and our investment activities.
During the spring of 2006, Investor developed a company name in Chinese, 银瑞达 (or “Yin Rui Da” in pinyin, the standard system for Romanized spelling of Chinese). The name not only has a similar pronunciation to Investor but also implies that the company comes from Sweden, is promising and making great economic progress. 银瑞达 will be used for the Greater China market in addition to Investor AB.
Journalist visit in March
In the beginning of March 2007, Investor is also hosting a delegation of 15 Chinese journalists during their visit to Sweden. The purpose of this initiative is to meet with Chinese journalists and provide information about Investor and many of the companies that Investors has interests in, such as Ericsson, AstraZeneca and Electrolux.
Investor’s commitment to China continues. Today, we believe we are well positioned in China with a strong team of investment professionals and enjoy good relations with China. With this platform, we will be able to discover and act on new emerging opportunities in the Chinese market going forward.
